History

Established in 1963 — A Legacy of Service

Started

Sri Sharada Sevika Mandali was founded in 1963 with the blessings of Swami Yatiswarananda Maharaj, then President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama. The trust was created to support and uplift women through safe housing, vocational education, and spiritual values.

Growth

Over the decades, the Trust has established multiple projects including Sharada Kuteera (1965) and Siddhi Hostel for Women (1989). These hostels continue to serve students and working women from all backgrounds by providing a secure, disciplined, and homely environment.

SRI SHARADA SEVIKA MANDALI

WE PROVIDE SAFE AND VALUE-BASED LIVING FOR WOMEN

Sri Sharada Sevika Mandala is a registered association started on 27-12-1963 with blessings of revered Swami Yatishwara Nandaji Maharaj, the Honorable President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Bangalore, with aims and objectives to serve the cause of women and children in rural and urban areas, to have cultural activities, cultured and residential homes for working women and girl’s students in the city and rural areas. Its constituted branches are Sri Sharada Kutir, Sri Sharada Sevika Mandali (Rural development project) Sri Sharada Balika Mandali, Sri Sharada Mandira (Temple), Padma Bhushan Yashodhara Dasappa vocational training center for women, Registered office is situated at 46, Ranga Rao Road, Shankarapuram, Bangalore-560004. All the branches are seen by sub-committees under the guidance and control of the Parental body. The Parental body Sri Sharada Sevika Mandali was later formed as a trust by the name Sri Sharada Sevika Mandali Trust. The management consists of President, Secretary, Treasurer, convenors, trustees and members.

  1. SRI SHARADA KUTIR:
    A cultural and residential home for working women and girl’s students started on 05-09-1965. It can accommodate 60 members, boarding and lodging facilities are provided.
    The hostel is being run by its sources. The staff position of the hostel is Warden -1, Assistant warden -1, Manager -1, Accountant -1, Maid Servents-4, Watchman-1, scavengers-2.
  2. SRI SHARADA SEVIKA MANDALI (Rural Development Project):
    This is a constituted branch of the parental body started on 13-09-1979 for the welfare of women and children in rural areas. It started a CRECHE “SRI SHARADA SHISHU KENDRA” at Vasanthpura, Bangalore south on 01-05-1980, about 60 children are beneficiaries mid-day meals and medical aid are provided to children. Indoor and outdoor games are provided. Karnataka State Social welfare advisory Board grants is being received from 1980 till today. Staff Position – Teachers – 1, Ayahs- 2. The crèche is being run in its own building. There is a library owned by a rural project. A temple for Sri Sharada Devi has been constructed by the rural project on its premises.
  3. SRI SHARADA MANDIRA:
    This temple was constructed in the name of “Sri Sharada Devi” by Sri Sharada Sevika mandala (Rural Development Project) at Vasanthpura, Bangalore South. At the temple daily Pooja and prayer are conducted, women and children attend the pooja and prayer, prasadam is being distributed and devotees of rural are benefited.
  4. PADMABHUSHANA YASHODHARA DASAPPA VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR WOMEN:
    Tailoring and Agarabathi training is given here.
    A hostel is being run at Vasanthpura for low-income group working women and students. The beneficiaries are students – 8, working women – 2 and senior citizen – 1.

OBJECTS OF THE TRUST:

  • To promote the study and practice of Vedantha in the light of the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Smt. Sharada Devi and Swami Vivekananda;
  • To promote the education of Science, literature and fine arts;
  • To establish, maintain, run and assist schools, Colleges, Hostels, Orphanages, Hospitals, Dispensaries and other educational, cultural and Charitable institutions;
  • To take up Rural works for the upliftment of women educationally, morally, intellectually and otherwise;
  • To establish, maintain and run Women’s Hostels (both for Students and working) and homes for the aged and infirm;
  • To print, publish, sell distribute gratuitously or otherwise periodicals, books and leaflets which the Trustees may think desirable for the promotion of the above objects; and
  • Generally, to undertake all such activities and measures as are cultural to promote with special care, the educational, social and economic welfare of Women.
